API and AI apps

1. Create a token

1. Open Settings in NestMarks and find API and AI apps.
2. Give the token a name you will recognise later, like "Claude on my laptop".
3. Pick what it may do. Read can look but not change anything. Read and write can also save and edit bookmarks.
4. Copy the token. It starts with nmx_pat_ and is shown only once. If you lose it, revoke it and make a new one.

A token opens your library, so keep it private like a password. Revoke any token you no longer use from the same Settings section. Tokens can only reach your bookmarks, collections, tags, notes and highlights: never your account, password, billing or other tokens.

2. Use it

Send the token in the Authorization header of every request to https://api.nestmarks.com. Requests and answers are JSON.

What you can reach

A read token gets 403 on anything that changes data. Anything not in this table answers 403 to a token.

Limits and errors

• 60 requests a minute per token. Over that you get 429; wait a minute and try again.
• 401: the token is wrong, revoked or expired.
• 403: the token can't do this (read only, or a route tokens can't use), or your Pro plan has ended. Your tokens are kept and work again as soon as Pro is active.

3. Connect an AI app (MCP)

NestMarks is a remote MCP server at https://api.nestmarks.com/mcp. Add it to your AI app with your token and you can ask things like "find what I saved about pricing pages" or "save this link to my Research collection".

Open Settings → Developer → Edit config, add this to claude_desktop_config.json, and restart Claude. It needs Node.js installed.

Other apps that support remote MCP servers over HTTP work the same way: the address above plus the Authorization header.

Tools

Use a read token if you only want the app to search. AI apps only see the parts of your library a tool returns, and answers are kept short.
